A good art program is one that helps children to grow creatively, aesthetically, socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually. The most important things a child learns in school or anywhere are ideas about himself or herself. So often these ideas form into a self-concept of "I can't," "Why try?", "I'm not capable," "What's the use?" For such children, art could be the one bright light, the time of day or week when they can, when they are capable, because an accepting adult celebrates each one's effort.
